Chaffee County Fire Protection District started operations in 1976 as simply Northern Chaffee County Fire Protection District. The boundaries were established at that time to mirror those of the Buena Vista School District. In 1984 with Chaffee County, Poncha Springs, and Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) assistance and grants, the southern end of the county was added to the Fire District completing a transformation into simply Chaffee County Fire Protection District. The boundary and coverage area the Fire District oversees, now follows the county lines with the exceptions of the City of Salida, Town of Buena Vista and a small area outside the city limits of Salida which falls under South Arkansas Fire coverage.
Chaffee County Fire provides services to over 1000 square miles. We operate out of 6 different stations located around the county with most of our firefighters being volunteer. Chaffee Fire Protection District is governed by a board of 5 elected directors .
