Mitigation and Home Evaluations

Home Safety Evaluation

Chaffee County Fire will, at no cost to you, provide a home fire safety evaluation to all those within the Fire District. We will check for proper placement of functional smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and evaluate the need for carbon monoxide alarms. We will also look for general hazards to you and your family, and talk about ways to mitigate any problems. After the evaluation, we will leave you with some informative reading material along with suggestions on how to make your home a safer place to live. Please contact Inspector Welch by email at bwelch@chaffeecountyfire.org or by phone at (719) 395-6545 to schedule an appointment.

Wildfire Mitigation

Many of us in the Fire District live in the Wildland / Urban Interface, which is a fancy way of saying that we are susceptible to the dangers of wildfire.  Chaffee County Fire would like to help you come up with a plan to reduce the hazards of wildfire while mainting the ascetic nuances of your property.  Wildfire mitigation helps protects you, your neighbors and the firefighters.  Please contact us to schedule an appointment or get more information.

Fire Mitigation Trailer

Chaffee County Fire provides a trailer to haul off slash in an effort to make fire mitigation slightly easier on the homeowners located within the Fire District.

How it works:

You call Chaffee County Fire and schedule a time that works for you. We will bring the trailer to your house and leave it. You then fill it up, we come pick up the trailer and haul the slash away.

What we need from you:

At the time of drop off, we collect a $100, refundable, damage deposit as well as a $40 useage fee.

Restrictions:

This is NOT a trash service, so we cannot accept the any of the following: garbage, garbage bags, milled lumber, construction trash, tires, glass, car batteries, refrigerators, weed or ground cover (duff). Also there is a restriction on the diameter we can accept: nothing over 5" allowed and no root balls. If any restricted materials are found in the trailer, the cost of disposing them will be taken out of the damage deposit.
