What is the distance to the nearest fire station?

Any of the station locations listed on the map can be considered for insurance reasons. Chaffee County Fire Protection Districts has automatic aid agreements with both Buena Vista Fire and Salida Fire, which is why if a property is closer to them but still within our District, their station location can be used for insurance coverage.

If the property is outside of 5 miles of any of the stations it would be an ISO rating of 10. If it is within 5 miles, move on to the next question.

What is the distance to the nearest fire hydrant?

ISO unfortunately only recognizes “city” hydrants as water sources. Any other hydrant, whether part of a private subdivision or a different kind of hydrant (dry) or water source (cistern) ISO does not consider.  Chaffee County Fire Protection District can and will utilize ANY water source available.

If the property is outside of 1,000 feet of an ISO recognized hydrant, the rating is a 5X.

If the property is within 1,000 feet of an ISO recognized hydrant, the ratings are as follows:

  • Buena Vista hydrants: 5
  • Poncha Springs hydrants: 5

**Note on the hydrant map** Please be sure to read TYPE as “dry hydrants” and “cisterns” are mapped.
