Commercial Building Inspection
The Prevention Division conducts two types of commercial building inspections: Annual inspections for existing buildings and construction inspections for new builds in the Fire District.
Annual Inspections on existing buildings can include the following:
- A full review of all present life safety systems to ensure the proper maintenance and testing has been consistently accomplished. This means fire alarm and notification systems along with fire suppression (sprinkler) systems have been tested and serviced annually by a qualified outside agency and the owner shall be able to provide appropriate documentation of that testing.
- All Occupancies are required to have fire extinguishers on site. The size and required numbers will vary based on occupancy type and load. All extinguishers must be serviced annually. Service tags and documentation shall reflect that.
- Ensuring means of egress are meeting code
- Building access is meeting code, with proper numeral addressing, clear fire lanes, knox box where required, and unobstructed access to the FDC and hydrant access if present.
- This is a noninclusive list of inspection requirements, only a basic overview.
