Mission, Duties, and Division Personnel

Mission: Our mission is to prevent fires from happening in the first place and we take seriously our obligation to protect local residents and visitors while they live, work, and play in the commercial occupancies of the Chaffee County Fire Protection District.

Duties: The fire prevention division is staffed by all hazard firefighters who respond to emergency calls in addition to completing the other duties described below.

  1. Review construction documents for new subdivisions and commercial developments for compliance with the fire code.
  2. Perform on-site inspections for installation of fire safety systems including fire alarms and commercial kitchen suppression systems; sign off on final certificates of occupancy for all commercial occupancies.
  3. Perform regular annual inspections of commercial occupancies in the county.
  4. Build pre-plans for incident response at commercial occupancies.
  5. Public safety and education events, school and commerical fire drills, and special events safety coordination.
  6. Post incident fire investigation for Origin and Cause determination.

Note, fire prevention in the Wildland Urban Interface is primarily the specialty of the Wildland and Mitigation Division. Our focus is primarily on structure fire prevention.
